Some headshots for ya! Al Keller is first in line. Al was a great driver in Midgets, Sprint Cars, Indy Cars and was the first driver to win a NASCAR race with a foreign car (Jaguar). Al was involved in the accident in the Indy 500 that claimed the life of the great Bill Vuckovich.
One of the greatest Midget drivers of all time - Len Duncan. Did you know that during WW II, Len was a chauffeur for President Truman?
George Rice will be inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame this coming January. I'd like to think that it was my nominating him that helped to get him inducted.
So much can be said about "Iron" Mike Nazaruk - how he excelled on the dirt tracks. For a while, Mike had tamed that big circular oiled dirt mile track in Langhorne, Pa, until that fatefull May 1,1955 date. I can still visualize him as he came past the stands on that last lap - wiping off his goggles, then being able to see him tossed out of the car, on what could be called the backstetch.
"Nokie" Fornoro is still racing today, believe it or not. His brother, Drew, has just come out of retirement a few weeks ago, to run a midget again, too. Both boys followed in the footsteps of their father, Nofri "Nick" Fornoro. Sadly, neither Nokie nor Drew never made it to the Indy 500.
