Alan Heath- Williams Grove, Pa.
And how about an "Ace" from way out west - Allen Heath. Allen had the misfortune to lose a hand, while racing, in 1953 He had a hook attached to his arm, and was still able to continue racing. Believe it or not, but he actually won a 500 mile midget race on the Riverside, CA road course, in 1958, while using the hook.
Another photo of Heath, in the Caruso sprinter, taken at Williams Grove. A "tad" bit dusty, I'd say?

Duke Nalon-Mike Caruso Jr. Sept, 30, 1951
A color photo of Mike, taken in 1954, with him sitting on some tires, at the Williams Grove Speedway, while his wife, Rose, looks through the fence. If I'm not mistaken, back then, women were not allowed in the pits.
A while after Ted Horn was fatally injured, while racing, Bill Schindler drove the Horn car for Ted's widow. And even way after that, Mario Andretti also raced the former Horn car. Way after this photo was taken of Bill and the # 18.

Bill Schindler- Beal Offy
For the longest time, I could only get this photo in a very small image. As you can see, it's now larger. This is Bill Schindler in the Earl Beal # 2 Sprint Car. I don't know why, but I keep thinking that this photo was taken at the Allentown PA Speedway, on September 20, 1952, the day Schindler was fatally injured - one week after the Morristown race between Paul Russo and Schindler. The day Schindler lost his leg, back in 1936, he was scheduled to run two races that day. He vowed never to do that again. That was until September 20, 1952, when he ran the Sprint Car at Allentown in the afternoon, and was scheduled to run a midget later that night. Strange how fate works, isnt' it?
