Tommy at Trenton: One of the best, of not THE best in sprint cars the Pennsylvania "Dutchman" - Tommy Hinnershitz. Mere words can't tell you enough of his exploits. |
| 1948/Ritter: Johnny Ritter - who stood about 5'2" with his shoes on. This is his # 3 Offy which he debuted at Hinchliffe Stadiium on Septembr 30, 1947. Some 12 years later, in 1959, Rodger Ward drove this car, then owned by Ken Brenn, to a win in the Formul Libre race on the mile and a half road course at Lime Rock, Ct. against some of the worlds best race cars and drivers | ![]() |

1949/Schindler: No doubt, these two, Bill Schindler on the inside, and Ted Tappett (Phil Walters) on the outside - two of the very best. Schindler stayed mostly in open wheel, excelling in midgets, sprint cars and Indy cars, with a few stock car races, too, while Tappett (Walters) excelled in midgets, stock cars and sports/racing cars - to the extent that he was signed by Ferrari to drive for them in 1955 in both their sports/racing cars and Grand Prix cars. He never did get to drive for the Ferrari factory team, since he retired from racing due to the Pierre Levegh accident at LeMans in which almost 100 people were fatally injured. |
| 1948/Tappett: Ted Tappett in the Curtis # 8 Offy - one of the best looking midgets from the late 1940's. | ![]() |
